Buzz Briefs: Chris Brown, Rachael Ray

Chris Brown Is All Grown Up

Chris Brown talks to Ebony magazine about his new record and dating.

The 19-year-old's new album is more sexy than his previous albums. "I wanted to do something more along the lines of a grown record," explains Brown about the June re-release of his album. "We made it a little bit more classy."

Chris, who has been rumored to date Rihanna isn't sure if dating is right for him. "If I ever had a girlfriend, it'd always be a problem," he said. "Fans want you to be attainable. I try to stay away from even having a girl. I go on dates, talk to a couple chicks on the phone."

Rachael Ray Fundraiser For Healthy Eating

2Surely Carly Simon wasn't talking about anybody in the room.

A Rachael Ray fundraiser attended by Bill Clinton, Bobby Flay, Mario Batali, Joy Behar and Katie Lee among others turned into a private concert when Simon took the stage to sing a four-song set including "You're So Vain."

The event was catered by five teenage aspiring chefs - with a little help from Food Network Iron Chef Michael Symon - selected from around the country by Ray. In addition to the chance to hang in the kitchen with Clinton and Food Network notables, the teens also each got $10,000 scholarships.

Clinton told the audience that poverty and obesity are interwoven and that the nation's current financial woes will only push more Americans toward unhealthy eating habits. The former president's Alliance for a Healthier Generation has partnered with Ray's Yum-o! organization, which works with families and schools to teach children healthy eating habits.

Held at a one-night-only, 75-seat restaurant called Cafe Una Notte (Cafe One Night), the event raised more than $200,000 for Ray's charity. It also helped launch Ray's new cookbook, "Yum-o! The Family Cookbook," all of the proceeds from which - including her $500,000 advance - will benefit the group.

The event was taped Monday and highlights will be broadcast May 7 on Ray's daytime show, "Rachael Ray."

Denzel Washington To Kids: Scientists More Important Than Entertainers

4Actor Denzel Washington says inner-city schoolkids have to be reminded that scientists are more important than entertainers.

Washington and his wife, Pauletta, award annual scholarships for neuroscience research to college students and make the presentations at city schools. On Friday, they came to Mount Vernon High School in Westchester County. Mount Vernon is Washington's hometown.

Washington says actors, rappers and basketball stars get more recognition, but someone in a hospital bed is more impressed by a good doctor. He says inner-city students might not be aware of all the opportunities available, and he urged the excited Mount Vernon kids to apply for his scholarships.

Washington recently directed and starred in "The Great Debaters," based on the real-life victories of a black college debating team in the 1930s.

Assault Case Against Sean Stewart Dropped

5A judge on Friday threw out criminal charges against Rod Stewart's son, who was accused of punching and throwing bricks at a couple during a Hollywood Hills melee, his attorney said.

At the prosecution's request, Superior Court Judge Stephen Marcus dismissed felony charges including assault with a deadly weapon, attorney Dana Cole said.

Stewart, 27, had denied the allegations and said he was a victim of mistaken identity.

"We always felt that over time, the truth would always emerge and the victims over time became less sure of the facts," Cole said.

Stewart was accused of attacking Tobalus and Ericka Stein after an April 2007 party in the Hollywood Hills above the Sunset Strip.

According to Cole, the couple's large pickup truck and Stewart, in a Rolls-Royce Phantom, were unable to pass each other on a narrow road.

"Words were exchanged" and bystanders in the street began pelting the truck because they felt the driver was being aggressive, Cole said.

"Over the course of time, it became apparent to the district attorney's office that it may have been mistaken identity," Cole said of the assault accusations. "There were a lot of people on the street at the time and he was a recognizable face."

Tom Cruise Doesn't Regret Couch Jumping

Tom Cruise says his infamous couch-jumping incident on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" was a moment he isn't sure he'd take back.

Cruise sat down with Winfrey for an hour-long interview taped at his home in Telluride, Colorado.

The 45-year-old actor says his antics three years ago were an authentic way of expressing the love he felt for Katie Holmes.

Holmes is now his wife, and she welcomed Winfrey to the home at the beginning of the show.

Cruise also talks about his belief in the Church of Scientology.

He says he's been accused of preaching about Scientology. But Cruise says one of its central tenets is to respect the religious beliefs of others.

Ex-Senator Not Commenting On Barbara Walters Affair

Former Senator Edward Brooke isn't commenting on whether he had an affair with Barbara Walters in the 1970s.

In an appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" scheduled to air Tuesday, Walters shares details of her relationship with the married Brooke that lasted several years in the 1970s. That's according to excerpts of the show provided to The Associated Press.

Brooke - who was the first African-American to be popularly elected to the Senate - says he has had "a lifetime policy and practice" of not discussing his personal life, or the personal lives of others.

Walters tells Oprah that her affair with Brooke, which never before came to light, ended before he lost his bid for a third term in 1978.

She says a friend had warned her that if the affair become public, it could ruin her career as well as Brooke's.

Lawyers for Wesley Snipes have filed notice to appeal his federal tax conviction.

The 45-year-old action star was sentenced to three years in prison last week on three misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file his income tax returns. He will remain free until he's ordered to surrender by the federal Bureau of Prisons.
