By now you've probably heard the news: Palm has finally taken the wraps off its new smartphone, the Pre. Gotta say, I'd pretty much written Palm off (and this from a guy who wrote numerous books about the company's devices), but the Pre looks mighty impressive.

Except for the name, that is. Seriously, "Pre" rivals "Sony Clie" for one of the worst product names in recent memory. Not wild about "Synergy" or "Web OS," either. But I digress. The proof will be in the pudding, and right now the Pre is looking pretty tasty.
