Buchanan One Of The Top House GOP Fundraisers
Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.) raised over $503,000 for his re-election bid, according to his campaign, and is poised to be one of the top House Republican fundraisers for the fourth quarter.
“The congressman is humbled by the tremendous support for his re-election and the positive response to his agenda of lower taxes and economic growth,’ campaign chairman Tim Clarke said in a statement.
Buchanan is facing a rematch against banker Christine Jennings (D), who lost to Buchanan by 369 votes in 2006 and contested the election results, alleging some of the electronic voting machines had malfunctioned.
Jennings has faced a few bumps in her second-time bid for Congress – she withdrew her county lawsuit contesting the election results, and has faced criticism after she went more than one year without paying taxes on her campaign committee’s payroll.
Jennings’ campaign has not yet released her most recent fundraising tally; they are not due to the FEC until the end of the month. At the end of September, Jennings had banked just over $216,000 in her campaign accounts.
