Britney Can't Get It Together
In the on-going tug of war over their two little boys, Kevin Federline seems to be doing everything right while Britney Spears does everything wrong.
With the media out in force at a Los Angeles courthouse, Federline put on a blue suit and slipped past them to show up and fight for his kids, reports CBS News correspondent Hattie Kauffman.
"Kevin wants to maintain the custody that he has as long as he can," his attorney Mark Kaplan said.
Meanwhile, across town Spears hit the road with her dog, grabbing a cup of coffee and playfully posing for photographers, despite her lawyer's plea that she come to the custody hearing.Timeline: Britney's Meltdown
CBS News legal analyst Ricky Klieman says that even though Spears flaunted the judge's orders, she ended up doing quite well.
"She wound up from nothing to having monitored visitation with these kids every other day," he said. "So I think what you have is a judge who is trying to say, look, we always want the biological mother to have some visitation, if not full custody, of the children. But she has to do it in steps. She has to earn the right to have custody back."
The court granted Spears limited monitored visitation with 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James, allowing the 25-year-old mom to see the boys roughly every other day.
In an attempt to do the right thing, Spears finally became a licensed driver Wednesday and got a temporary one from California.
Last night, the circus continue to swirl around Spears, who checked into the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.
OK magazine reports that her next stop may be Antigua in the Caribbean where the magazine says she will check into Eric Clapton's Crossroads rehab center this weekend in an effort to show good faith to the court. But with Spears ordered to make her next court appearance on Oct. 26 - rehab may have to wait.Photos: Britney And K-Fed
Klieman said that Spears' attorneys should make sure that she enters a serious 28-day program and make arrangements with the court to push the date of her next appearance back.
"The thing she's got to deal with is this can't be an 'I'm going to pop into rehab and pop right out,' " Klieman said. "She's got to go to rehab and really make a difference in her life. If she does that and goes to a full program, they need to postpone that Oct. 26 date."
