Boy's Uzi Death Trial to Begin in Mass. Gun Show Case, Former Police Chief Eward Fleury Accused
SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts (CBS/AP) Opening arguments are expected Tuesday in the manslaughter trial of former police chief Edward Fleury, whose company co-sponsored a 2008 gun fair where an 8-year-old boy fatally shot himself with an Uzi submachine gun.
The 53-year-old Fleury has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter and furnishing a weapon to a minor in connection with the death of Christopher Bizilj.
The boy lost control of the Uzi and accidentally shot himself in the head at a gun fair in October 2008.
Jury selection was completed Monday, with a prosecutor and defense lawyer agreeing on 12 regular jurors and four alternates.
