Perry was in Elmira picking up his car that had been impounded when he was arrested on charges of insurance fraud and grand larceny last month.
Police say Perry was uncooperative.
According to CBS affiliate WTSP, Perry began to yell at the detectives Monday and took off running out of the local police station in Elmira.
He reportedly drove off and refused to speak with anyone. Investigators remained in Elmira to continue to question those close to Perry, including his daughters, reports WTSP. Detectives said Perry's two daughters, in their late 20s, refused to speak to them, according to local news source the Star-Gazette.
"They did a little grandstanding," Perry's attorney Thomas E. Reilly told the newspaper, about the detectives. "These people from Florida should understand that the United States Constitution applies to Florida as well, unless they recently seceded from the union, which by the way might be a good idea."
Florida authorities have wanted to question Perry in the disappearance of Rothwell, his 35-year-old girlfriend. Perry has refused to take a DNA test or talk to authorities, aside from his lawyer providing police with a three-hour timeline of the day Rothwell disappeared.
Police have not called Perry a suspect, but they have referred to him as a person of interest in the case.
Rothwell was last seen March 12 leaving a Chili's restaurant in Clearwater, Fla.
The friend who last saw her told WTSP that Rothwell had plans to go home and break up with Perry.
Perry reportedly has a new girlfriend he met on the website Craigslist two weeks after Rothwell's disappearance.
