Blast Kills Afghan Provincial Governor, 14 More

A massive explosion at a mosque in northern Afghanistan during Friday prayers killed an Afghan provincial governor and 14 other people, officials tell CBS News.

The blast occurred at the Shirkat mosque in Takhar province, Gov. Abdul Jabar Taqwa said.

The governor of neighboring Kunduz province, Mohammad Omar, was inside the mosque at the time of the blast and was killed, according to provincial spokesman Khair Mohammad, who spoke Friday to CBS News' Fazul Rahim.

Speaking to Rahim in Kabul, a spokesman for President Hamid Karzai called the attack an "assassination".
