Bjork's new album "Biophilia" customized for iPad
(CBS) Truly reflecting the digital age, each song on singer/songwriter Bjork's new album "Biophilia" has a corresponding iPad app to help further enrich the experience.
It might sounds strange -- but even if you're not a fan of Bjork's music it might be worth checking out. According to the Telegraph, each track has a corresponding song app includes an essay analyzing the music, a visualization of the song, the score and an interactive activity. For example, the app for "Crystaline," includes a game where you go around the universe picking up crystals. Each song app costs $1.99.
Initially, according to an interview Bjork gave to Wired, the "Biophilia" creator intended her new album to be paired with a 40-minute IMAX 3D movie directed by Michel Gondry. But, as delays over the concept and Gondry's other project at the time, "The Green Hornet," kept setting the film back, Bjork re-conceptualized her vision for the iPad. "We were always thinking about the iPad, iPad, iPad," she told Wired.
While time will tell if Bjork's model will help increase album sales revenue -- or even prevent people from downloading it illegally -- her new technique is certainly gaining the attention of fans and industry folk alike. All in all, Bjork claimed on NPR that it's still all about the music. "The interactiveness goes really to the core of the music, the structure of the song," Bjork said on NPR. "It's not just something like an accessory. ... It is the song."
