Report: Biker who did 146 mph blames broken speedometer
MINNEAPOLIS - A 23-year-old Minnesota man arrested for driving recklessly on a motorcycle -- at one point, allegedly hitting 146 mph -- told police he didn't realize he was going that fast and that his speedometer was broken, reports CBS Minnesota.
An officer reported seeing Tyler Gese, of Lindstrom, speeding excessively and driving very close to other vehicles around 6 p.m. last Wednesday, June 11.
Police say Gese was going already doing 94 mph when he pulled out into oncoming traffic to pass a vehicle, reports the station.
The officer in an unmarked squad said he then clocked Gese accelerating from 113 mph to 146 mph and activated his emergency lights.
The officer called authorities in Polk County for assistance and a short time later was alerted that Gese had been pulled over.
Gese reportedly told police he was going to see his son.
CBS Minnesota reported he was placed under arrest for possible charges of recklessly endangering safety, speeding and passing into oncoming traffic.
Officers say several other vehicles had called in complaints regarding a motorcycle with the same description as Gese's.
