Best Bets: "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," new Amy Winehouse album and the American Country Awards
(CBS) Gary Oldman and Charlize Theron both return to the big screen on Friday, in two very different films.
Oldman plays a Cold War-era spy in an adaptation of John le Carre's "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," while Theron portrays a divorcee who moves back to her hometown to rekindle a romance with her (now married) ex-boyfriend in "Young Adult."
New music will be coming out from Amy Winehouse on Tuesday, on the posthumously-released "Lioness: Hidden Treasures." The album features 12 tracks of previously unreleased songs, alternate versions of her hits and brand new tracks. Other music releases include The Black Keys' "El Camino," Dia Frampton's "Red," The Roots' "undun" and Robin Thicke's "Love After War."
Those looking to include DVDs on their holiday shopping lists (or pick up a new movie for themselves) can pick up "The Hangover Part II." The "Hangover" sequel reunites stars Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms and brings the morning-after buddy comedy antics from Vegas to Thailand.
There's also the big-screen adaptation of Kathryn Stockett's best-seller "The Help," which takes place in Jackson, Miss., in the 1960s. Emma Stone stars as a college graduate looking to write a book about black maids working in white households, and Viola Davis plays a maid who shares her story. Both DVDs come out Tuesday.
On TV, the American Country Awards will air Monday on Fox, hosted by Trace Adkins and Kristin Chenoweth. "Sons of Anarchy" airs its season finale Tuesday on FX, and crooner Michael Buble will get into the holiday spirit with NBC's "A Michael Buble Christmas." Fans of sequins, satin and stage mothers will want to turn to TLC on Thursday for the return of "Toddlers and Tiaras."
Joseph Gordon-Levitt will add "author" to his resume on Tuesday, when his book "The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories" comes out. It's filled with brief stories and illustrations submitted by the public, and is the first volume in a planned series.
New books will also be released by Patricia Cromwell ("Red Mist"), Anita Desai ("The Artist of Disappearance") and Sara Shepard's "Ruthless."
