Best Bets: The Oscars, "J. Edgar" and a JFK tell-all

Oscar ballot, Academy Awards ballot, list CBS

(CBS) This week is all about Oscar.

The biggest movie event of the year - the Academy Awards ceremony - takes place Sunday evening in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on ABC.

The ceremony and the red-carpet shows before it are the highlights of an otherwise lackluster President's Day holiday week in TV. The only premiere on tap this week is Syfy channel's "Ghost Busters International."

Moviegoers who have seen all the Oscar nominees have two new offerings available to them this week: Opening Friday are Tyler Perry's "Good Deeds" and "Wanderlust," Jennifer Aniston's latest rom-com, which also stars her real-life beau, Justin Theroux.

Moving from the big screen to the small one are some highly acclaimed films: "J. Edgar" starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Armie Hammer; "Martha Marcy May Marlene," starring the Olson twin's younger sister, Elizabeth; and "The Way," a religious road-trip movie directed by Emilio Estevez and starring his father, Martin Sheen. The DVD releases of all three are set for Tuesday.

Music fans can expect to see a new album Tuesday from Irish singer-songwriter Sinead O'Connor, whose personal life has set tongues wagging of late. "How About I be Me ( And You Be You)?" is the ninth studio album for the singer, who wed her fourth husband in December, separated from him after 17 days and then announced to the world in January that they were back together again.

Also to be released Tuesday is "Reign of Terror," a sophomore effort by the pop music duo Sleigh Bells.

Mimi Alford's Kennedy tell-all, "Once Upon An Secret: My Affair with President John F. Kennedy and Its Aftermath" hits stores Tuesday although excepts have been making their way to the Internet for weeks. Alford claims to have had an affair with the president while she was a White House intern.

Also being published Tuesday is "Celebrity in Death," a new entry into the J.D. Robb mystery series. In case you didn't know, J.D. Robb is a pseudonym for best-selling romance writer Nora Roberts.
