Be A Knockout Valentine
Women often want a little extra flair on Valentine's Day, and a new hairstyle is a good place to start.
So The Early Show had a visit from style expert David Evangelista, who had some special Valentine's looks you can try at home.
"When I think of Valentine's Day, I think of a woman wanting to look sexy, glamorous or romantic for their valentine," Evangelista said. There's a look for each of those moods, and Evangelista demonstrated how to get each one right.
The Sexy Valentine
Tools needed: a Mason Pearson or boar bristle brush, a comb, snag-free hair elastics, hair pins, hairspray, volumizer or mousse and silicone oil
First, spray volumizer or mousse through your hair and blow dry out, creating volume at the roots. Tease the roots loosely and lightly mist with hairspray. Brush and pull your hair into a high ponytail with the Mason Pearson or boar bristle brush, making sure the ponytail rests right below the crown of the head. Secure with a snag-free elastic. Finally, take a half-inch of hair from the ponytail and wrap around elastic. Secure it in place with a hairpin, and lightly smooth the hair with brush and a dab of silicone for shine.
The Romantic Valentine
Tools needed: a curling iron (the size of iron is up to you, depending how big or small you want the curls. For bigger curls, get a bigger curling iron; for smaller curls, a smaller iron), bobby and hair pins, pomade/light hold hairspray, soft setting gel .
After showering, towel blot hair and apply soft setting gel, scrunching into the roots and through the hair. Take 1/2 to 1 inch sections of hair and wrap hair around curling iron (do not use the clamp on the iron!), holding for 10-15 seconds until curl takes. Continue until all hair is curled. Next, section hair around the face in three sections: top, right side, and left side. Take the top section and secure hair 3 inches below the crown, criss-crossing bobby pins in an X-formation. Take the right side section, and secure it over the top section with a hair pin, then do the same with the left section. Mist lightly with hairspray, and re-curl any pieces of hair that need to be set again.
The Glamorous Valentine
Tools needed: hot rollers, a Mason Pearson or boar bristle brush, hairspray, a medium-large round brush
Blow dry hair with the round brush, bending the ends of your hair inward. Next, set hot rollers in your hair, either all back off your face, or in a side part, in the tradition of Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly, and spray setting hair with hairspray. Let the hot rollers sit for at least 15-20 minutes, then remove and brush the hair into desired shape, whether it's off your face with your ends flipped or into a seductive side part towards your face. Spray lightly with hairspray for hold.
