Barry Stopped For Running Red Light

Washington D.C. city council member and former mayor Marion Barry was stopped early Sunday for running a red light and cited for refusing a urine test after an officer smelled alcohol on his breath.

The Secret Service says Barry was stopped by one of its officers around 3:00 this morning after running a light at the intersection of 16th and 'H' Streets in Northwest.

The officer who approached the vehicle said he detected alcohol on Barry's breath, and the council member was taken to a nearby police station for a Breathalyzer.

The Secret Service says that test was unsuccessful and Barry was then ordered to take a urine test, which he refused to do.

Barry has been cited for refusing to take that test and was given a ticket for the traffic violation.
