Baltimore official's nephew killed amid weekend of violence

BALTIMORE - Three people died, including the nephew of the Baltimore City Council president, in three separate incidents of violence in the city on Saturday.

CBS Baltimore reports that as a result of the abundance of violence, the city was put on high alert and patrols were increased.

"We are moving quickly and we are moving in a very focused manner to make sure that we continue to keep our city safe this (coming) weekend," Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts said, according to the station.

Police said Sunday that a woman was arrested in connection with one of the killings.

Michelle Johnson, 22, is charged with murder in the death of 36-year-old Carla Harrison, who was fatally stabbed in the stomach around 1 a.m. Saturday. Police say the stabbing was part of a fight among several people, and that a 30-year-old woman was also hurt.

Two men were also killed Saturday, including Steven Jackson, the 29-year-old nephew of Baltimore City Council President Bernard "Jack" Young.

Police say Jackson died at a hospital after being shot in the head just after 1:30 p.m.

Another man, 28-year-old Jamar Green, died after being shot several times at 4 p.m.

No arrests have been made in those homicides.

CBS Baltimore reported Monday that local police are partnering with the Department of Justice to crack down on crime in the city.

Anyone with information on the killings of Jackson or Green is asked to contact police.
