Baltimore County cops kill unarmed domestic dispute suspect

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- A police-involved shooting is under investigation in Baltimore County after an unarmed man was killed, reports CBS Baltimore.

Police say three Baltimore County officers opened fire on an unarmed suspect who had allegedly just beaten a female victim. The man reportedly had a restraining order that forbid him from being at the address.

The station reports that at least 19 shots were fired during the incident in Owings Mills, Md., about 10 miles north of downtown Baltimore.

A woman and two young children were in the home at the time of the shooting.

The incident began just after 1 a.m. when police were called to the home for a domestic disturbance.

Officers heard a commotion from the condo on the second floor and forced their way inside.

"Officers then were confronted by an adult male. He produced what they believed to be a gun. Multiple officers then opened fire," Cpl. John Watcher, of the Baltimore County Police, said, according to CBS Baltimore.

Multiple officers fired at the suspect.

"I'm shocked," said neighbor Teresa Davis. "This is a very quiet neighborhood. We never have any type of disturbances. Seeing the police cars this morning on my way to work, I'm startled."

"There's definitely a safety concern because we don't know if there's a threat to officers or anyone else at the location. So we take extra care," said Cpl. Wachter.

The officers were unharmed and placed on administrative leave during the investigation.

The woman and two young children are also safe.

Some neighbors say this not the first time police have been called to this home, and that officers have a long history of responding for other domestic disturbances.
