Bachmann uses iPhone for cash pitch

As Friday's midnight deadline loomed for filing third-quarter presidential campaign finance reports, Rep. Michele Bachmann made one final pitch to supporters asking for money using an unusual source - her iPhone.

The Minnesota Republican's iPhone message repeated an earlier email from Bachmann reminding voters that the deadline "is one of the last ones before voting starts in Iowa, and every donation matters.

"The Washington 'elite' are chomping at the bit to see the numbers our campaign reports, and I need your support today more than ever," she wrote.

Bachmann wasn't the only candidate to make such a last-minute plea.

Bloomberg reported that President Obama told about 60 guests at a campaign event at a private home in Washington Friday night that he needs their financial backing because, "We still have work to do to make sure that this town is working on behalf of ordinary folks so that they can start once again believing in the American dream."

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney reportedly has raised between $11 and $13 million in his third-quarter campaign finance filing. Romney had raised $18.2 million in the previous quarter. Romney aides have predicted that Texas Gov. Rick Perry would outraise Romney this quarter.

The New York Times quoted aides to Perry who said their goal is to bring in around $10 million for the third quarter. Though expectations had been for Perry to bring in as much as $20 million, the aides noted that the Texas governor only entered the race in mid-August.

The campaigns are not required to report their total third quarter fundraising and spending to the Federal Election Commission until October 15.
