Autopsy reveals 7-year-old Jorelys Rivera died shortly after her disappearance
(CBS/AP) CANTON, Ga. - A missing Georgia girl whose body was found on Monday in a dumpster was killed within 90 minutes of her disappearance, according to an autopsy.
In a news conference Tuesday morning, Georgia Bureau of Investigations Director Vernon Keenan said an autopsy revealed 7-year-old Jorelys Rivera died from blunt force trauma and stab wounds.
Rivera vanished on Friday from an apartment complex playground in Canton, north of Atlanta.
Investigators say they believe she was taken to a nearby vacant apartment, where she was sexually assaulted, stabbed and beaten to death. Keenan says the suspect likely lives in the complex or had access to it.
A $15,000 reward has been issued as investigators say they're continuing to pursue leads.
Keenan said that evidence collected from the child's body and the apartment are being tested. He said they hoped to have preliminary DNA results by later Tuesday.
