Atari Vault to release 100 classic video games on Steam

The Atari 2600 Game System was inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame in 2007.

If you're nostalgic for the classic video games of the 1970s and 80s, you're in for a treat. Atari Vault has announced it will release 100 vintage games on the online gaming service Steam.

Games included in the release will include fan favorites like Asteroids, Centipede, Missile Command, Tempest and Warlords, Atari said in a press release. Playing on the Steam platform will provide an updated user interface as well as new multiplayer options.

"For the first time ever, fans from around the world can challenge other players on Steam Leaderboards and compete for arcade supremacy - all while rocking out to the games' original 70's and 80's soundtracks," Atari said.

Atari Vault is scheduled to launch this spring for PCs, GameSpot reports, and enthusiasts can check out a preview at the PAX South video game expo in San Antonio, Texas, Jan. 29-31.
