Ariel Winter opens up on breast surgery scars

Ariel Winter has been a very vocal advocate for body positivity, and now the actress is opening up on the time fans criticized her for revealing her breast reduction scars at the SAG Awards.

The "Modern Family" star, who defended herself at the time on Twitter, told ET that the backlash bothered her.

"I thought it was so unnecessary because it doesn't make sense to me," Winter explained. "If I didn't think about [the scars] myself, clearly I'm not ashamed of them. I don't know why anybody would be. They're not going away."

"I was confused as to why that was a topic people were talking about," she added. "We shouldn't be ashamed of them. [It] doesn't make us less beautiful."

In fact, Winter didn't even think about what would happen if she showed her scars as she prepared for the red carpet that night.

"I knew I had scars but they didn't even cross my mind that I should cover them," she said.

Winter explained in August that she got breast reduction surgery because of Internet bullying, back pain and difficulty finding clothes. She went under the knife for breast reduction surgery on June 4 to go from an F-cup to a D-cup.
