CBS News national security analyst Juan Zarate spoke to CBSN about the possible ramifications for European countries after security forces killed two terror suspects in a fierce shootout in the eastern city of Verviers in Belgium.

"European authorities are going to be more sensitive to the threats that come in," said Zarate. "They are going to be more aggressive in counterterrorism actions."

Belgian authorities said the group was poised to launch "terrorist attacks on a grand scale." The raid in Belgium comes just a day after U.S. authorities foiled a plot by an American supporter of ISIS to attack the U.S. Capitol.

"I do think you're going to see more of these raids," said Zarate. "European authorities are not willing to wait, not willing to see these threats accumulate."

The operation was part of an investigation into extremists returning from Syria, authorities said.

"There are individuals in Europe known to have ties and links to the Islamic State," said Zarate. "Those are the kinds of suspects that need to be watched."
