Apple's Do Not Disturb function reportedly won't turn off in the New Year
A handful of Apple mobile devices owners have reported that the Do Not Disturb function on their iPhones or iPad are not turning off as scheduled.
The Do Not Disturb feature was added to iPhones and iPads with the release of Apple's latest mobile operating system, iOS 6. When enabled, users can schedule times when mobile devices notify them of calls and text messages. During the "do not disturb" period, calls go straight to voicemail and text messages are silent.
According to The Guardian, the bug went into effect on Jan. 1 and went unnoticed by many. But the issue appears to only affect iOS6-native devices, like the iPhone 5, fourth generation iPad or iPad mini. The issue does not seem to affect alarm clocks.
Twitter users discussing possible ways to get around the bug did not appear to be successful.
"If you're still seeing the Do Not Disturb bug this morning, manually turn it off. Wait a few mins., turn back on. Does the moon icon appear?" @ddsilverman tweeted. A follower responded by saying, "Yes, the moon icon reappears on my device. Even tried power cycling between the DND toggle. Still reappears."
Simply turning the feature off and then on or restarting the mobile device does not seem to reset the function. The crescent moon logo that signifies the Do Not Disturb is on reappears after both attempts at a quick fix. Users may have to turn the feature on and off manually for the time being.
Apple did not immediately respond to CBS News' request for comment on the matter.
