Anti-Aging Tech Advances

Defying age isn't just about Botox anymore. There are plenty of new anti-aging technologies available to slow the aging process even further, from new wrinkle treatments to melting fat.

On "The Early Show" Tuesday, Kristin Perrotta, beauty editor at Allure magazine, shared some of these cutting-edge advancements, recently approved -- or about to be approved -- by the Food and Drug Administration, that may revolutionize the way that we slow the aging process.

Perotta told "Early Show" co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez the new products are improvements on products already on the market.

Perrotta's tech picks for slowing the signs of aging:

1. The Wrinkle Relaxer, Dysport, $400 per treatment-Botox has its powers, but speed is not one of them. It can take up to a week to start relaxing wrinkles. Enter Dysport, which was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in May and shows results in as little as two days. Dysport also lasts about five months, as opposed to three or four with Botox.

Perotta's thoughts on the product:
"It's a new version of Botox. Botox still exists. Botox is still a good product. But this is here to challenge it. The difference between Botox and Dysport is that Dysport seems to act quickly. People have been frustrated because they want Botox immediately before their wedding but it takes a week for it to set in. You have to plan ahead. Botox lasts three to four months, Dysport lasts five months. At this point, they're both the same price, so that's the appeal of Dysport...Because (Botox and Dysport are) competing against each other, it will drive down the price of both."

2. The Collagen Rebuilders---Tanda Professional Skincare System, $395
Light emitting diode machines (or LEDs) stimulate collagen production in the skin, reduce wrinkles and even zap acne, and now there are smaller versions that you can use at home. The Tanda Professional Skincare System is great because it helps to improve skin texture and color while diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It naturally stimulates the production of collagen, which is what your skin needs to look plump and fresh. You will see results in 30 days, and the product will last for years.

Perotta's thoughts on the product:
"The Tanda is a version of the dermatologist LED treatments. Those treatments use different wave lengths of light to stimulate collagen and decrease wrinkles, and get rid of sunspots. In a dermatologist's office, you sit in front of a screen, like a computer screen. At home, you have the Tanda, which uses red light and it's small, so it takes longer to use...You use it on your face. You just flash in the different spots. It takes about 15 minutes to do your whole face. You do it every day, and dermatologists recommend you do it with a retinoid like retinol."

3. The Line Fillers-Evolence, $500 per treatment
Evolence, a new injectable, was recently approved by the FDA to plump lips and lines. Some dermatologists believe it will replace injectable collagen, as it doesn't cause allergic reactions. This also lasts longer than its counterparts, lasting up to nine months for 95 percent of patients in one study.

Perotta's thoughts on the product:
"It's a new version of collagen. Collagen was always dermatologist's favorite for plumping your lips. The problem with collagen is a lot of people are allergic, and they had to do tests before hand. Dermatologists used other fillers instead, but they caused bruising and were very painful...Evolence fills but it lasts longer. Evolence lasts nine months as opposed to two to three months."

4. The Zerona laser--$2500 for every six treatments
The Zerona laser (which has FDA approval for other uses) is a low-level cool laser, which presents no risk of burning the skin because no heat is involved, is a promising new noninvasive treatment for melting fat. The laser deflates fat cells in targeted areas, releasing the fat into surrounding tissue to be burned off naturally by the body. A clinical trial found that patients treated six times in two weeks, with no changes in diet, lost an average of 3.6 inches combined in the waist, hips and thighs.

Perotta's thoughts on the product:
"I'm most excited about this...It doesn't burn the skin...It lasts as long as you don't gain a ton of weight back. It's like Liposuction."
