Angelina Jolie said she scared kids on "Maleficent" set

Angelina Joliesays it was fun getting to play one of the Disney universe's most evil characters.

The Oscar-winning actress made a surprise appearance at Disney's D23 expo over the weekend in Anaheim, Calif., where a special preview screening took place for her upcoming film, "Maleficent."

Jolie plays the evil sorceress from "Sleeping Beauty" and says that her makeup and costume were based on her animated counterpart from the 1959 animated classic. Jolie told the audience members at D23 that her appearance was more frightening than she had even realized.

"The strange thing was people with little kids would visit set and I would think, 'Oh I'm a Disney character.' And I would go over to the children and say, 'Hi, do you wanna...' And they'd scream and they would run off. One little kid even said, 'Mommy please tell the mean witch to stop talking to me.'"
