(CBS) A rep for Amy Winehouse is denying a British report that the singer was in the process of adopting a 10-year-old girl when she died.

Over the weekend, the Mirror reported that Winehouse was going to adopt Dannika Augustine from the island of St. Lucia.

The Mirror spoke to Augustine and her grandmother, who both said that the adoption plans were in motion and that the girl's parents had signed off on the idea.

The report also said that Winehouse had hired lawyers for the adoption and had booked plane tickets to visit Augustine, and even showed a picture of the two together.

Winehouse's rep told TMZ.com on Monday that the report is "not true," adding, "I think [Amy] might have met her in St. Lucia, but she was in no way about to adopt her."

In other Winehouse news, the 27-year-old soul diva's album "Back to Black" has climbed back to the top of the UK charts, eight days after she was found dead of unknown causes in her London home on July 23. The Grammy award-winning album was also No. 1 in 2006 when it was released.
