One hundred and sixty-seven Americans aboard a U.S. chartered ferry docked at Tripoli's port are still waiting for the weather to clear. High seas have delayed their departure to Malta.

"I'm sure the conditions are difficult," said State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley, who adds the passengers slept on the ship overnight. Additional provisions were brought on board during the day. "These people have been on board this ship for well over 24 hours. I'm sure they're uncomfortable."

The vessel has been sealed and the passengers have not been allowed to disembark. They're being protected by diplomatic security personnel.

The State Department hopes the ferry will begin its journey within the next several hours. Aside from the Americans, 118 others are on board.
