BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (CBS/AP) You can expect more glitter at this year's Golden Globes ceremony and we don't just mean the sequined gowns and diamond jewelry.

Apart from all the stars lighting up the room, the new set at the Beverly Hilton Hotel's International Ballroom will shine with 30,000 Swarovski crystals.

It's part of an effort by Dick Clark Productions, which is producing the Globes, to make the entire ballroom the set with a 360-degree experience for viewers.

To do this, some 3,000 pounds of crystals were flown in from Austria for Sunday's ceremony.

Production designer Brian Stonestreet says the crystal-encrusted set design was inspired by the ballroom's signature chandeliers, but the sparklers won't be confined to the stage.

His crystal creations will also hang overhead, making for that "a 360-degree experience," he says.

The 68th annual Golden Globe Awards will be presented Sunday and broadcast live on NBC. British comic Ricky Gervais is host for the second year in a row.

The Globes, of course, are only the centerpiece of the awards weekend. This year, there are Saturday night parties sponsored by Paramount (in honor of Robert DeNiro) Sony Pictures, Disney and the talent agency CAA.

After the televised ceremonies there are at least seven parties sponsored by HBO, InStyle/Warner Bros., Fox, AMC/Sundance Channel, NBC Universal/Focus Features, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Relativity Media/Weinstein Co.
