(CBS/AP) LENOIR, N.C. - The father of 10-year-old disabled girl Zahra Clare Baker, who was murdered by her stepmother in western North Carolina, has been deported to his native Australia.

Attorney Shell Pearce says his client, Adam Baker, was deported roughly two weeks ago by the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

Pearce says Baker brought the remains of his daughter, Zahra, with him for burial in Australia.

Adam Baker moved to North Carolina in 2008 after marrying a North Carolina woman he met online. Elisa Baker was convicted of second-degree murder last year in the death of Zahra, who had a prosthetic leg and hearing aids from a battle with cancer.

Adam Baker had been facing criminal charges unrelated to Zahra's death but Pearce says those cases will now likely be closed.
