Acrobat.com Sends Large Files Straight From Outlook

Need to send a large file attachment? We've long been fans of the YouSendIt plug-in for Outlook, which taps that service from within your e-mail client. Now Adobe is getting in on the big-attachment act with the Acrobat.com Outlook Plugin. Surprisingly, it's free, and you get 5GB of online storage to boot.

As you probably know from experience, if you try to send someone an attachment that's larger than 5-10 megabytes, it'll probably bounce -- either at your server or theirs.

The plug-in [download] adds an Acrobat.com tab to the Outlook 2007 ribbon (sorry, Outlook 2003 users). Just click Upload FIle and Insert Link to upload the attachment to your Acrobat.com account and add a download link to your outbound e-mail.

Meanwhile, signing up for a free Acrobat.com account nets you 5GB of storage you can use for just about anything. That gives Adobe a leg up over YouSendIt, as does the fact that uploaded/shared files never expire. What's more, recipients can preview PDF or Office documents without actually having to download the attachment(s).

Nice! Much as I'm loathe to invite any extra bloatware -- er, Adobe software -- onto my machine, this slick offering is definitely worth a look for Outlook 2007 users. [via Digital Inspiration]
