A Rested Edwards Hits the Hardwood

(CBS)
From CBS News' Aaron Lewis:

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- John Edwards enjoyed his first full night of sleep last night since New Year's Eve and it showed in his campaign activity today.

Following a day yesterday with quick speeches and a cracking voice, Edwards looked energized this morning in Portsmouth, N.H. where he rallied with hundreds of supporters in Market Square.

Then in Concord, he felt fine enough to take shots at us in the press, something that's given him some enjoyment in recent days.

"I've spent an awful lot of time in this Granite State and you don't like to be told what to do," he told voters. "You don't like the national media to tell you who you're supposed to vote for."

And in his final event - a town hall meeting in Lebanon, N.H. - Edwards couldn't resist shooting some hoops in a gymnasium holding an overflow crowd of 150.

As the crowd swarmed around the three-point arc, Edwards took 16-foot jumpers on different parts of the floor. He was cold at first, something he attributed to the fact he was using a woman's ball. But when he finally got his hands on a regulation-sized men's ball he started making more than he missed.

"Michael Jordan!" someone cried out at one point.

"No Michael Jordan," replied Edwards. "I wish."

After taking his shots from the perimeter, he finished with what all serious players do at the end of a workout: practice left-handed lay-ups.

Consider it a warm-up for tonight's big debate in Manchester...
