A New Chapter In The Page Story

A Florida newspaper has now identified and interviewed the elderly priest that the former congressman says abused him as a teenager. (Among other things, they took naked saunas together, but the priest says he thought it was all innocent.)
Katie interviewed the priest by telephone this morning, and he confirmed many of the details in the newspaper report, including the fact that he had spent time with a teenaged Mark Foley over a two-year period. Parts of that interview will be broadcast on tonight's CBS Evening News.
And on Capitol Hill, a key witness in the case is scheduled to testify. From CBS News producer Allison Davis:
For those following the House Ethics Committee's investigation of the Foley scandal, today is a big day.Stay tuned. It could be an interesting day.We expect to hear from Jeff Trandahl, the former clerk of the House and a long time Hill staffer. There was an extensive profile of him in yesterday's New York Times.
The Times notes: "As the House ethics committee pursues its investigation, few accounts are more crucial than Mr. Trandahl's in determining whether Republican leaders acted with enough urgency. He is scheduled to testify to the committee on Thursday, when he could corroborate — or contradict — accusations that Speaker Dennis Hastert's office knew about Mr. Foley's behavior at least three years ago."
Trandahl, who is openly gay, was considered a power player on Capitol Hill and reportedly confronted Foley about his email exchanges with Pages. He recently left the Clerk's office for a position with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation
