7-Year-Old Shot While Defending Her Mom

A 7-year-old girl is recovering in a local hospital after being shot six times while trying to protect her mother.

Alexia Parker of Detroit received several wounds to the face, including in one of her eyes.

Alexia was shot as she lunged over the seat at a man identified as her mother's ex-boyfriend during the attack Sunday morning in a friend's sport utility vehicle, police said.

Kelvin Tillie, 29, has been arraigned on several charges, including two counts of assault with intent to commit murder and three counts of felonious assault.

He had not yet been appointed a lawyer, court personnel said Wednesday.

Tillie has been on parole since April 10. His prior convictions include home invasion and assault with a dangerous weapon, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 13 in 36th District Court.
