6th arrest after slain teen said someone was trying to kill him
DORA, Ala. -- A sixth person has now been charged in connection with the case of an Alabama teen found slain after he told his mother someone was trying to kill him.
39-year-old Lawanda Marie Reese, of Quinton, Ala., was arrested Wednesday and charged with hindering prosecution in the death of 19-year-old Nicholas Hawkins, reports CBS affiliate WIAT.
Hawkins' body was found last month at a construction dump site in Quinton. Walker County Sheriff Jim Underwood told the station the body had been wrapped in sheets, and that it appeared to be a murder. Underwood said investigators found the body about 30 feet into woods they were searching after Hawkins' family told them they saw a car that looked like his in the area.
Hawkins was reported missing Feb. 14. Dora Police Chief Jared Hall told the station that in his last phone call with his mother before vanishing, he told her someone was trying to kill him.
"It's disturbing when he calls his mother, tells his mother someone is trying to kill him, and then they lose contact," Hall said, before the body was found.
Wednesday's arrest is the latest in the case. Three have already been charged with murder -- 21-year-old Joshua Adam Reese, 28-year-old Cory Daniel Conner, and 22-year-old Danny Lee Jarvis. WIAT reports Hawkins told his mother it was Joshua Reese who was trying to kill him.
Colton Stephens Echols, 20, and 23-year-old Tessa Jean Wise are also facing charges of hindering prosecution.
