$30K reward in murder of Texas woman initially ruled accident
HOUSTON - A $30,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the death of a 50-year-old Houston woman who was found dead her swimming pool last April and whose death was initially ruled an accident, reports CBS affiliate KHOU.
Edith Sax's body was found April 25 floating face down in the backyard swimming pool of her Houston home. She was wearing work scrubs and a lab coat, reports the station. At the time, the 50-year-old's death was ruled an accident, but her family urged detectives to keep investigating and authorities now believe she was murdered, according to the station.
"Edith sax was an avid swimmer and could not have drowned in five feet of water," Houston police officer Vashawnda McLean told KPHO. "Someone went to great lengths, we believe, to stage an accidental drowning."
Two unidentified men were reportedly seen near Sax's home around the time of her death and evidence indicates someone who was familiar with Sax's routine and the layout of her home is responsible for her death, according to the station.
"She didn't deserve this. We didn't deserve this as a family," said Natasha Nazareen Rafiq, Sax's oldest daughter. "We're lost. We are seeking justice for our mother."
Detectives reportedly believe money may be the motive.
"There was a multi-million dollar will left," Detective Myron Dillingham with the Houston PD told the station.
Sax is survived by her husband, seven children and stepchildren and a granddaughter. Authorities say Sax's husband has been cleared as a suspect, reports the station.
Anyone with information on Sax's case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
