3 arrested in shooting outside Va. high school

WOODBRIDGE, Va. -- Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of a Woodbridge, Va., student who was shot and killed Monday afternoon near his high school, reports CBS affiliate WUSA.

Kawain Tyrell Smalls, 20, was arrested without incident at his home on Tuesday, police said. Smalls is being charged with murder, and two firearm-related charges, in connection with the death of 16-year-old Brenden Michel Wilson.

The teen was shot dead on a path not far from Woodbridge Senior High School at around 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Kymothy-Tyriq Desean Wilson, 18, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony. Smalls and Wilson are both Woodbridge, Va., residents.

A third suspect, identified by police as a 17-year-old juvenile, is also charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, and another suspect, identified only as a juvenile, remains at large.

According to Prince William County records, Smalls has a long criminal background, which includes robbery and identity theft cases.

A police source tells WUSA that the shooting was the result of a drug deal gone wrong.
