2nd Co-Defendant To Testify Against O.J.

Two people are now lined up to testify against O.J. Simpson in the alleged armed robbery of sports memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas hotel room.

A second co-defendant has told a judge that he will plead guilty to a reduced charge and provide testimony against Simpson and others.

Walter Alexander says he will admit to conspiracy to commit robbery. He could face up to six years in prison if convicted.

Earlier, Charles Cashmore, 40, of Las Vegas, told the court he would accept a plea deal. His attorney says Cashmore can establish who was in the room, what was said and who had guns. Simpson and his lawyers have denied guns were present.

The attorney also says Cashmore "wishes he would have never met O.J."

"In District Court, he'll be pleading guilty to accessory to robbery," Clark County District Attorney David Roger told the judge. "He's agreed to provide truthful testimony."

Procedurally, Cashmore waived his preliminary hearing. Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Joe Bonaventure Jr. set arraignment for Oct. 23.

"The plea deal here is no surprise at all and clearly signals more trouble for Simpson," said CBS News legal analyst Andrew Cohen. "He now has to rebut the testimony of the alleged victim in the case AND one of the men that victim says was part of the robbery. Now it's Simpson's word against the word of at least two other men."

Cohen believes that the pace of the deals will speed up a bit as the other co-defendants try to get the best deal they can while the DA is still offering. "That includes O.J. Simpson, whose lawyers probably also are taking with prosecutors behind the scenes," Cohen added.

Simpson and the others, Clarence "C.J." Stewart, Michael McClinton, and Charles Ehrlich, are due in court for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 8 and 9.

Bonaventure will decide then whether there is enough evidence to send the case to trial in state court.
