$20K in supplies for needy veterans stolen from Sacramento boy scout camp

(CBS) SACRAMENTO - A group that helps needy veterans in the Sacramento area says thieves stole more than $20,000 worth of supplies intended for the vets over the Labor Day weekend, CBS Sacramento reports.

The items - everything from backpacks to boots, to sleeping bags and baseball caps - disappeared from a boy scout camp where it had been kept outdoors for weeks.

"They took everything; they wiped us out," said Barbara Ross, of Sacramento Stand Down.

"It looks like it's been ransacked," said Ross. "They went through everything."

Ross thinks she knows who did it.

"It was the Indian Hobbyist Association," she told CBS Sacramento. "They were seen going through the stuff and taking it."

The California Indian Hobbyist Association had an event on the same property over that weekend.

Ross sent CBS Sacramento an email she says she got from one of the hobby group's organizers.

"When I first got there on Friday the camp ranger told me to take what you wanted. I passed that along to the campers. There was no intention of stealing anything that was for Stand Down," the email read.

Ross doesn't buy it.

However, police are still investigating and no arrests have been made.
