2-year-old Fla. boy found living in filth, parents arrested
(CBS/AP) HIALEAH, Fla. - An emaciated 2-year-old special-needs child was found by police in a motel room surrounded by garbage, feces, soiled diapers, rotten formula and a dead cat.
Hilaleah police say they found the boy after his mother called 911 Saturday afternoon. They say the boy was suffering from severe dehydration and weighed just 15 pounds. He was rushed to the hospital, where officials say he remains in critical condition.
His parents, Savanah Sholter, 21, and Vincent Collins, 25, were arrested on child neglect charges.
Police say the parents were living in one room with a 1-year-old while their special-needs child stayed alone in the filthy room next door.
The parents are being held on a $7,500 bond.
