2 police officers shot in Troy, N.Y.; suspect dead
TROY, N.Y. -- Two police officers investigating an attempted carjacking in upstate New York were wounded by a suspect before returning fire, hitting the person, authorities said.
Troy Police Captain Dan DeWolf told CBS News that around 11:30 Saturday night, Officer Joshua Comitale recognized a person of interest in an earlier attempted carjacking, saw the person had a weapon and called for backup.
When Officer Chad Klein arrived, the suspect opened fire, striking both officers, DeWolf said. The officers fired back, hitting the suspect.
Comitale suffered gunshot wounds to both legs; Klein was shot in the shoulder, according to DeWolf. They are being treated at the Albany Medical Center Hospital.
The suspect later died from his injuries, DeWolf said. The suspect has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.
