19th Emmy Nod For Lucci
For the 19th time, Susan Lucci has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy, a prize she has yet to win. Lucci has played Erica Kane on All My Children since 1970.
Nominees for the 26th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards were announced Thursday morning at New York's Rockefeller Center. In the category of talk show host, Oprah Winfrey has taken herself out of the running after winning 32 Daytime Emmys and a Lifetime Achievement Award. Her show, however, is still in the running for outstanding talk show.
CBS This Morning Co-Anchor Mark McEwen, chatting with nominees Robert S. Woods and Elizabeth Hubbard, points out that Woods has been playing Bo Buchanan on One Life To Live for 18 years and asks the actor: Is he you?
"Yes, basically. He's pretty close," replies the actor. "He has a lot more money than I have. He dresses better than I do. But we look just alike."
Hubbard, who plays Lucinda Walsh on As the World Turns, has won two Daytime Emmys, and she was nominated Thursday for the seventh consecutive time in the role of Lucinda. (She won her trophies for her work on The Doctors and for her portrayal of Woodrow Wilson's wife in a daytime TV special titled First Ladies' Diaries.)
She tells McEwen that the best part of working in daytime drama is "the fact that you have time every day, so if you didn't like what you did yesterday, you can do something better today."
As for Woods, he says, "I like knowing where I'm going to be working next year as an actor."
Both Hubbard and Woods also cite the enthusiasm and loyalty of soap fans, and how a long run with a program often involves an ongoing relationship with a devoted bloc of viewers.
And where does Woods keep the Emmy he won in 1982?
"Right now, it's in the living room," he says. "It usually is on my desk in the back of the house. I was going to say that's where it is, but my son now lives in my wife's and my bedroom. We're living in the living room."
And that, McEwen quips, sounds like a soap opera in itself.
The Daytime Emmys Award ceremony will be broadcast on CBS May 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
