10-year-old driver crashes (surprise), Fla. mom convicted of child abuse

A Port St. Lucie woman who let her 10-year-old daughter drive a car that crashed into three vehicles and a house pleaded no contest Monday to charges of child abuse and permitting an unauthorized minor to drive.

It happened May 23, 2010, according to TCPalm.com.

Audrey Willoughby reportedly told Port St. Lucie police that a man named Michael Ray Green III, was giving the girl a driving lesson in a Toyota Corolla when the collisions occurred.

At least she was having a lesson, right?

Green, who had a bloody hand when interviewed by authorities, said he'd had two beers and that his driver's license was suspended. (Great teacher!) Willoughby told police she didn't think Green was drunk, according to the website.

The girl told police she was driving and that her 8-year-old brother and Willoughby were in the rear seat.

Willoughby also was charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, a misdemeanor, after investigators found marijuana in her purse. Under a plea deal, she'll face no more than 18 months in prison, TCPalm reported.

The children were taken to their grandfather's house after the incident.

In January, Green, who also was charged with child abuse, was sentenced to 13 months in prison to be followed by 11 months probation.
