1 dead in shooting near K.C. City Hall; suspect arrested
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- One man is dead and another is in custody after a shooting this morning near Kansas City's city hall, reports CBS affiliate KCTV.
Police officers were called around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday to the area, where they joined passersby in attempting to assist the victim. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died in surgery, KCTV reports. His identity has not yet been released.
Officers were able to catch the suspected shooter on foot less than a mile away.
Kansas City Police Chief Darryl Forte tweeted that the middle-aged victim worked in the area. The victim's family members were on the scene.
Authorities say the suspected shooter was a man in late his 20s. Detectives are not sure of the relationship between the shooter and victim.
Police are still searching for the gun, Forte said.
