The skateboarder, identified as Joey Czaplinski, moved to South Florida from Maryland not too long ago, with his family back home wanting to transfer his body there.
CBS News Miami caught up with a few skateboarders who are here to compete this weekend.
"We knew it was coming soon. We just didn't expect it to be on the world stage rather than on our vert ramp back home in Australia," her coach said, adding that Tony Hawk gave her pointers.
