MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Hazmat crews  packed up their gear after investigating a suspicious object thrown over the White House fence Monday afternoon.

The object landed on the North Lawn sometime around 1:30 p.m., according to CBS News, prompting the White House to be placed on lockdown.

Around 3 p.m., crews removed the suspicious material from the lawn, bagged it and carried it away. By 3:30 p.m., the White House was back to normal operations.

The person who threw the metal object over the fence was "immediately apprehended without incident," said the Secret Service.

The security breach reportedly occurred a short time after President Barack Obama returned to the White House from a Memorial Day ceremony and speech at Arlington National Cemetery.
