MIAMI - A high speed chase on the streets of South Florida on Wednesday came to an end at Miami International Airport.

Police pursued a driver behind the wheel of a black Chevy Tahoe that had been reported as stolen in a Margate business burglary on Tuesday.

A Miramar police officer with the auto crimes unit spotted it Wednesday morning and tried to pull the driver over. The Broward Sheriff's Office was called in to help with the helicopter.

The chase headed south into Miami-Dade. At one point the driver of the Tahoe wove in and out of traffic on streets of Miami, near N Miami Avenue. He then got on southbound 1-95 at NW 62nd Street, near Miami Edison Senior High School.

He made his way to State Road 112, the Airport Expressway, and headed west. He then got off at LeJeune Road and drove into the departure area of Miami International Airport.

There he stopped. Two officers approached the Tahoe and pulled the driver, who had his hands up, out of the driver's seat. He was then placed into handcuffs and taken into custody.

Police have identified the driver as 57-year-old David Lee Griggs Jr. from Orlando. Miami-Dade police are charging him with fleeing and eluding law enforcement officers. He reportedly has open warrants for his arrest, and Margate police said there will be additional charges.
