Guide: High-Tech Gadget Gifts For The Holidays

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Finding the perfect gift can be rather tricky--especially for someone who appears to have everything. But perhaps you haven't come across some unique tech gifts that will please everyone, from the gardener with a green thumb to the world traveler, even Lego enthusiasts.

As you shop this holiday season, avoid the duds and head for the high-tech gifts that are just plain cool.

Here are just a few holiday favorites:

For the young and young at heart, the Lego Mindstorms EV3 adds new features to everyone's favorite building blocks, allowing you to construct fairly sophisticated robots.

"Education-wise, these toys are great for learning to program, learning mechanics," said Lego Mindstorms Community Partner Will Gorman.

At $350, the set is pretty pricey, but a screaming solo on a guitar made entirely of Legos is priceless.

Know a traveler, or person on-the-go, who's always complaining about typos provoked by a tiny smartphone keyboard? How about a $100 virtual one that connects to the phone via Bluetooth and uses lasers to project a full size qwerty keyboard onto any flat surface.

Want to say connected to the kids via a wristwatch? The new Filip serves as a stripped-down cell phone of sorts in the form of a watch.

The $200 device lets parents track their kids' location with the accompanying app. Kids can also use the Filip to make and receive calls, but only from specific numbers in their contacts list.

For the tech fanatics on your list, the $80 Leap Motion Controller offers a completely new way to interact with your computer. Ditch the mouse and keyboard, just fingers can be used to play puppeteer or get a science lesson.

Food prep lovers nursing a green-thumb may appreciate a Click & Grow for the holidays. These $80 smart planters take all the guess work out of when to water fresh herbs. Fill up the water tank, power-up the planter and in a couple of weeks sprouts should emerge. There's also an optional grow light to help in the winter months when there's less natural light available.

These unique and uber-tech cool gift ideas will be sure to impress your loved ones for the holiday season and won't cause too much of a dent in the bank account.
