Two Panther Kittens Found Dead In Collier County

MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Two, four-month-old panther kittens were found dead Sunday after apparently being struck by cars.

The first panther kitten was found Sunday morning, the second was found hours later.

The latest kitten found was a four-month-old un-collared panther. It was located on Immokalee Road near the intersection of Krape Road.

It appeared the panther was struck by a vehicle.

Because the small panther had been run-over numerous times, officials were not able to determine a sex of the animal.

Earlier in the day, a female sibling of the young panther was found hit by a vehicle at Immokalee Road and Wildwood Boulevard.

The remains of the panthers will be sent to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Gainesville lab for necropsy.

The deaths bring the total number of panthers killed in 2014 to 16.

Florida panthers are endangered.
