MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) - Three people are dead after a chain reaction accident on the Julia Tuttle Causeway bridge.

The Florida Highway Patrol said around 4:30 a.m. a motorcyclist collided with a person on a scooter in the eastbound lanes.

On impact, the motorcyclist lost control and crashed into a person who was fishing from the bridge.

"This is not a safe place. He was out here at 4:30 in the morning, so this was a very unfortunate event," said FHP Lt. Yosdany Veloz.

The motorcyclist and the person on the scooter died on the scene.

The FHP said the person on the scooter and the person fishing off the bridge should not have been on the bridge.

Not only is fishing off the bridge very dangerous, it is not allowed.

The critically injured person who was fishing was rushed to the Ryder Trauma Center where he died. A person who had been with him fishing off the bridge was not injured.

Veloz said Miami Beach Marine Patrol and the Florida Fish & Wildlife were called in to assist in the investigation.

"Someone mentioned that someone may have flown over the bridge, so we did a search early in the morning," said Veloz.

The search did not turn up a fourth victim in the water. The investigation into the cause of the crash is still on going, however, investigators believe excess speed played a factor.
