MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Michell Sanchez, now commonly referred to as Chef M, has been cooking up some of his favorite dishes for family and friends since he was a kid.
His homemade burgers and tacos became so popular, he opened up his first food truck, Latin House, four years ago.
"The first day we got out on the truck and I gave out the first taco and I saw that instant gratification they had," said Chef M, adding, "I was hooked…totally and completely hooked for life."
Two years ago, Sanchez decided to open Latin House Grill, a restaurant in Kendall. Since then, his menu has expanded and so has his fan base.
"We specialize in American, Cuban, Latin fusion," said Chef M. "It's just food that I like to eat and the people really enjoy it."
It's a family affair at the restaurant. Chef M's wife and daughter work side by side serving up his tasty food—along with craft brews, to which Latin House has 21 on tap.
To start off, CBS4's Lisa Petrillo tried a Latin House Grill favorite—Holy Guacamole.
"I taste the cilantro and lime," Petrillo said. "It's citrusy and delicious!"
Next up for tasting, Petrillo had three muffin top selections.
Three burgers; first a Mexican muffin top with queso blanco, crema and pico de gallo, second an American burger with cheddar cheese and bacon, and then the award-winning classic Frita with homemade yuca chips.
Petrillo chose the American burger.
"A quarter pounder of succulent meat," Petrillo said. "It's a delicious burger."
If you're a power eater, Petrillo recommends the Chimiburrito. It's mean, yellow rice, and a three-cheese blend.
"This will put some meat on your bones but it's worth it," Petrillo said.
If you're in the mood for lighter fare, Chef M serves a four taco sampler; two lettuce tacos with shrimp and fish and two tortillas with chicken and chorizo.
"Tastes like a taco but doesn't have the carbs," said Petrillo. "This is a delicious 'girlie' taco."
