MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Officials at Florida's Turnpike have heard back from more than half of their customers after they were contacted to swap out their old transponders.
According to the Sun-Sentinel, as of early November SunPass had contacted 1.3 million of its more than 2 million customers. Of those, more than half have responded.
"We have another 90,000 SunPass swap notifications ready to be sent in the coming weeks," turnpike spokesman Chad Huff told the Sun-Sentinel.
The swaps are required as part of a federal mandate that all transponders work on any toll by October 1, 2016 but there is no set deadline for the completion of the exchanges.
Notifications were first sent out in June. They continue to be sent out in parts to avoid overwhelming the SunPass call center.
According to the Sun Sentinel, officials are urging drivers to not try to swap out their transponder until they get their notification.
