State Dept. Official In Miami To Sign Security Deal

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) – Since Miami is considered a hub for Latin American and Caribbean travel and trade, a top U.S. State Department official is in town to sign an agreement with Miami port of officials on security related issues in the Caribbean region.

William R. Brownfield, the official assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, will sign an agreement Wednesday aimed at ensuring cooperation to combat such problems as crime, corruption and drug trafficking.

Also, the signed agreement will assist Caribbean and other countries in getting training to handle issues on their own.

Brownfield will attend a graduation event at Miami-Dade Police Department on Thursday, which helps the State Department train foreign police officers including some from the Haiti National Police.
